Embrace growing old

Growing older is a fact of life which can be disturbing for a lot of us. The loss of the strength and vitality of youth can be a scary thought. We do not need to accept ageing - we need to embrace it.

Growing older is the way the universe prepares us for newer and richer experiences. As one grows older, the pleasures we get may be different from those when we were younger; but they are as enjoyable. Looking back, we realize that growing older adds flavor to the journey of life.

Materialism will not bring real pleasure

A lot of our time is spent working towards attaining materialistic things. When after all our efforts, we attain what we wanted, we realize that we do not get the pleasure that we expected.

We must differentiate between the things which give us real pleasure and the things which we want to own just to massage our ego. We will realize that the best things in life are actually free

Don't lose perspective

Most of us get disturbed when things do wrong in our everyday life. With some perspective, we will realize how small the things are which get us down.

People in this world are starving to death. Others are born with terrible disabilities. We must realize that even if things seem bad, we still have a lot to be grateful for.

Live in the present

We have all been guilty of thinking too much about the future or the past without being aware of it. What we tend to forget is that by doing so we are not living in this moment. It is natural to plan for the future or relive the memories of the past. However, this should not be at the expense of not enjoying the present.

The next time we find your thoughts moving backward and forward in time, we need to gently their our mind back to the moment we are in. We need to develop the habit of enjoying the present moment.

Knowing and Doing

Quite often, we know intuitively what is the right thing to do and the path to follow. A lot of the times, though, we do not do what we know is the right thing probably because it seems more difficult.

We need to trust our instincts and do what we know we should do. Once we get on the right track, all difficulties will melt away

Knowing the hero in you

When we think of a hero, a movie star, a sportsman or even a politician may come to mind. We would never consider ourselves a hero in our mundane lives.

But if we are working hard for our living, contributing to our family, friends and community and spreading happiness in the world, we are heroes in the true sense of the word. We are living life the way it is meant to be.

Dealing with loneliness

At certain times in our lives, all of us will experience feelings of loneliness. We might feel lonely if we find ourselves without friends or family; or in some cases, we might be lonely even if people are around.

We need to be aware of our feelings as loneliness can lead to depression. We must take this opportunity talk to ourselves and listen to our true feelings. This is a phase and like all phases in life, this too shall pass.

Motivate people around you

A great way of feeling alive is by making a small positive difference to the world everyday. The easiest way of making this positive difference is by believing in people around us and motivating them.

By giving people confidence, we are able to touch lives and make their lives richer. People who start believing in themselves create happiness all around and inspire others. Our actions create a positive ripple effect in the world.

Believe in que sera sera

Worrying about the future is one of the futile activities to indulge in. Internalize the phrase, 'que sera sera' - whatever will be will be, and life will seem so much easier.

If we knew the future, life would not be any fun. The fact that we watch each day unfold and can create our own future is what adds excitement to life.

Dealing with a bad phase in life

The universal truth that we tend to forget when we encounter a bad phase in life is that the phase will pass. Good and bad phases form a cycle and it is only due to our lows that we can appreciate the highs.

We must stay optimistic at all times basking in the knowledge that things are bound to change. Smiling your way through a bad phase makes it a lot easier.
